Amrapali Zaveri

November 9, 1984 - January 24, 2020

Amrapali passed away suddenly on Friday, 24th of January. She was and will be an inspiration to us all. She loved to travel, nature, and learning new stuff. Her shining eyes, her optimism and laughter filled every place with joy She will be remembered for her bright personality and rigorous organizational skills, as well as for her love of coffee and food. She loved to be amongst nature and travel to new places. Her favorite out-of-office email message was to declare that she was “one with Nature.” This meant she was not online -- and everyone knew she deserved it.

My dear Amrapali! The news was short and shocking. You left us so unexpectedly due to brain stroke! I don't forget my first day at Stanford, I was nervous , you made it joyful, had lunch with me, introduced me to everyone. Your beautiful happy face calmed me down. Remember our yoga class, our zoom coffee routine, long conversation on the way back from Asilomar? I was so happy for you as you just became assistant professor. You are alive through your work, your community service, your publications. But above all, through all the lives you touched with your kindness and generosity. You were a true gem. I wept when you were leaving stanford to Netherlands, your voice is clearly in my head: “Don’t cry Shima, don’t cry”. Rest In Peace my dear
