I met Alastair way back in 1988 when he was a 21 year-old university student. We met at a pub, started talking music and hit it off. That led to a 30 year friendship where we visited each other regularly (I live in America and used to come over for Wimbledon each year). He was always good company, whether it was watching sci fi movies, playing monopoly, playing music or just hanging out at a restaurant. He had a great sense of humor. Even though we hadn't been in touch for a long time because we were raising our respective families, I still consider him one of my best friends. He will be missed.
One more little thing: I was with him in Hollywood when he bought that Paul Reed Smith he is playing in the picture. He was obsessed with finding one and I was so glad to be able to hook him up with it.
