Alan was an amazing teacher with an enthusiasm you rarely see. My studies were funded by my employer and I was scared of failing but with Alan's support and encouragement I passed all but one. The one I did fail, Alan went out of his way to prep me for my second attempt. I still have the birds eye tin he gave us upon completing our study weekend which is still used for my tea bags (10 years later!). My condolences to Alan's family, he was truly a remarkable person.
