As a former and grateful student of Alan's I was so sad to hear he had died. I never missed a revision course and for one topic I travelled to Jersey as well as London to do it twice to make doubly sure I passed! Alan's passion for teaching and the subject was infectious - he held every student's attention with his stories and learning points. When I completed my exams (16 in those days) he kindly sent me a print of his son's artwork which I admired and still have to this day.
