Mrs. Abosede Adewunmi Okunuga, a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, a visionary leader, a mentor, a cheerful giver, and an excellent clinician. She was born into the family of Mr and Mrs Ogunbekun from Ijebu Odogbolu Ogun state on the 30th of August 1953. She married Olugbenga Okunuga Esq. on the 31st January, 1981 and they’re blessed with four amazing children.
She was employed by the Lagos state Health Management Board now known as the Lagos state Health Service Commission (HSC) as a physiotherapist on 26 October 1978. During her career she painstakingly established ten (10) new physiotherapy departments which are established all over Lagos state and increases easy access to physiotherapy services. She also started the committee of heads of departments for Lagos state employed physiotherapists. She was a one time chairman of ethics and privilege committee for the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy. A Fellow of Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy.
Dr Abosede Okunuga, being an astute administrator, single handedly made it possible for Lagos state employed physiotherapists to be able to attain Director cadre and helped other health professionals likewise. Hence, she became the First Director of Physiotherapy Services in Lagos state on January 1st 2005. Her perseverance made it possible for physiotherapy services to be what it is today in the health sector in Lagos state. She retired from service with the Lagos state government on the 30th of August 2013.
She was fondly known as ‘Mummy Okunuga’ in the Sunday school, was a devoted Christian and long standing teacher in the Sunday school department of Bola Memorial Anglican Church Abule Onigbagbo Ikeja. As a pillar of the Sunday school, she has served as Superintendent of the Sunday school for the past 25 years and until her death.
A wonderful woman with a good heart, she always made sure to take care of all the children and teachers first before considering herself. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by the entire BMAC Sunday school family.
In addition to all her achievements and engagements, she was also a recipient of Meritorious Service award, Long Service award (34 years) and was recognized for her stellar commitment and outstanding contribution to the Children’s Ministry.
This devout and virtuous woman was a role model whose integrity and legacy would forever be remembered.
